Hi Jessi and Kate,
We're less than three weeks from Gigaton! I found a lot to unpack on your episode on Superblood Wolfmoon and will try not to make this email too long. I really enjoyed this song the first time I heard it, and have tried inserting the track into Backspacer, which actually works really well. I thought this song was somewhat of a combination of Johnny Guitar and Supersonic, however I think it's more lyrically and musically complex than both of them. I love the bridges in the "la la la" part and "she's a stunner and I am stunned." The song is so fast right before those parts, it's almost like they wrote it this way to give Ed a chance to catch his breath.
I agree with the sentiment that this may be a difficult song to pull off live. I tried to put into perspective how fast and lyrically complex this song is and tried to compare it to other fast-paced songs that didn't repeat lyrics constantly throughout. Out of the songs below, only Lukin has been played more than 20 times and that's probably because it's only 62 seconds long. I went through and compared how many words per second Ed sings.
Superblood Wolfmoon: 262 words, 229 seconds, 1.14 words/sec
Johnny Guitar: 220 words, 171 sec, 1.29 words/sec
My Father's Son: 298 words, 185 sec, 1.61 words/sec
Lukin: 120 words, 62 sec, 1.94 words/sec
Without the bridges and Mike's solo, I'm sure this would "challenge" Ed's voice as much as My Father's Son and Lukin, but maybe those breaks will make this more forgiving on him live.
The other thing I want to touch on is the definition of a Superblood Wolfmoon. To be clear, did Kate say a Superblood Wolfmoon isn't a real thing? I may have misinterpreted her, but I went to the "Googles" and found a lot of different articles, one in particular has a definition from Dr. Tracy Gregg at the University of Buffalo.
“So a super blood wolf moon" is: a) the first full moon in January; b) a full moon occurring when the distance between the Earth and Moon is as short as possible; c) a lunar eclipse--all happening at once!” Gregg said, adding that it is a rare phenomenon.
