Hi Brad and Brad,
I wish I could say I've seen Pearl Jam live frequently enough to be able to make a list of first-hand experiences. Since I can't, mainly I can only do so through bootlegs and YouTube. Here are my top 5 favorite live performances.
5. Evolution - Madison Square Garden, July 8, 2003 (Live at the Garden)
To have gotten the crowd into such a frenzy, that the stage rattled, still blows my mind a bit. I love watching Ed's reaction as he feels the ground moving beneath him.
4. Given to Fly - St. Louis, October 11, 2000
In remembrance of Kimberly Rae Schaefer, I remember finding this a few years ago on a YouTube "Rabbit Hole" and watched it several times after. It was still before the band started speeding up the tempo of this song on stage.
3. Not For You - SNL Reheasral, April 1994
My favorite part of this performance is when Ed's eyes roll into the back of his end when he sings "I still remember, why don't you?" Very raw and powerful version, which I enjoy even more than the recorded version.
2. Immortality - Shoreline Amphitheater, October 2, 1994
Very cool, stripped down version with Jack playing bongos. I really enjoy Mike and Stone each having solos in this performance.
1. Present Tense - Ed Sullivan Theater, May 4, 2006
I didn't know about this performance until a little over a year ago. This is by far my favorite deep cut of the bands and I love how it starts with just lights on Ed and Mike. My favorite part is when Mike is strumming and posing with his right hand in the air constantly throughout the jam session. I really hope I can see this song live and in person someday.
Forced to endure, what I could not forgive,
Chris
