Hi Brad and Brad (and Kate),
I wanted to
start off my email to you guys this week to give a shout out to Kate
Cotton. She not only rocked in her recap of the Boston shows on Episode
59, but I thought she did a great job going over Drop in the Park with
Blazek. It had me thinking you should consider giving Kate a weekly
soundbite with the tag "Single Kate Theory" just to turn around that
douche bag's comment on YouTube. I would welcome Kate on any future
episodes. Another thing I want to say is I think it's incredible how
personable you guys are with the listeners, especially the OGs (e.g.
Kate, Patrick "Bagel," Jenon, Danny B, John Ferrar, etc.). I'm not
fully caught up with the podcast, but love the fact you guys continue to
connect with everyone who was not only there in the beginning, but all
of the new listeners and seem to make it a point to read their email to
make them feel welcome. I certainly felt that way after having heard my
email on Episode 53.
The main reason for my
weekly email is I have spent the past couple of weeks putting together
the "Ultimate Set List" in spirit of Episode 39. There are no piss
breaks (Evenflow) or novelties (Yellow Ledbetter) on this list. Just to
make sure this flowed, I first took my list and created a playlist on
Spotify from the studio recordings and while it sounded good, it still
wasn't close enough to the real experience. What I did next was collect
my bootlegs and live albums and put together a playlist on my iPod.
After shifting around the sequence here-and-there I have settled on my
"Ultimate Set List." When I emailed my studio albums rankings I
mentioned that Severed Hand would serve as my ideal opener. I went back
and researched how many times it has been played as the opener and it
has only opened for 10 out of the 137 times it has been played. The
last coming over 10 years ago in Camden, NJ. I love the buildup at the
beginning of this song so much and have always imagined it as an
opener. Essentially I come out pretty strong and then back off, which
is a constant theme of ebbs-and-flows throughout the show. I
intentionally made the Encore 1 section deep cuts and really enjoy
putting Nothing As It Seems and You Are back-to-back. I finish out
Encore 2 with more of the Ten era and end the show with my favorite
closer of theirs, Indifference.
Listening
to this playlist almost makes me feel like I am there. It's a much
needed escape for me, given what has happened this year. Frustratingly
enough, I have another difficult situation to navigate regarding my
mother's health. Right now this Ultimate Set List is helping me through
this new challenge and I hope my mom will have an opportunity to take
this head on and persevere just as my wife has done this year.
Forced to endure, what I could not forgive,
